Syphon Interactive founders Scott Murdock and Ken M. Wilson have recently returned from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they spent several days visiting Sociedade Viva Cazuza, an organization that provides a home and treatment for children infected with HIV as well as providing educational resources to the medical and patient communities.

Sociedade Viva Cazuza is named in memory of Cazuza, a well-known Brazilian pop artist who succumbed to AIDS after spending the final years of his life in a crusade to raise AIDS awareness. The organization was founded by his mother, Maria Lúcia Araújo, who continues to be actively involved as the president.

During their visit Ken and Scott met all of the doctors that work at the facility and many of the children who reside there. The children living at S.V.C. are given the best of medical care, but more important than that they are given the chance to live relatively normal lives -- attending public school while also socializing with other children like them.

To help Sociedade Viva Cazuza in its mission, Syphon Interactive will undertake a project over the next several months to build two new web sites. One of these sites will be a replacement for the existing web site found at http://www.vivacazuza.org.br/, the other web site will expand upon S.V.C's Scientific Forum, which collects the latest AIDS and HIV information from around the world and translates it into Portuguese to make this information available to the people of Brazil. As part of this commitment Syphon will also develop administrative tools to allow the S.V.C. staff to keep their content current, and will provide hosting facilities at no charge indefinitely.

Working in the international arena is not new to Scott and Ken. Between the two of them they have worked with clients in the United Kingdom, Germany, Tunisia, Quebec, and even a prior Brazilian project. This visit is, however, the greatest distance they have traveled to-date to meet face-to-face with a client.

Due to the complexity of the web sites and the tremendous amout of resources being donated, it is impossible to estimate a date of completion at this time, though final launch will most likely occur in the first half of 2001. A further update will be posted here when launch occurs.
